May
The Queen visited Scarborough and the surrounding area on 20th May. Her main duty was to open the newly refurbished Open Air Theatre, which is only 2 minutes from the Lysander.
It was a glorious sunny day and there was a huge turnout. The last time the Queen visited Scarborough was 35 year ago. It has been a great boost to the town and the Queen had her first ever pub lunch with our friends at The Blacksmith's Arms.
Let's hope it's not so long before we have another visit from our egioning monarch.
April
Continuing the "Best of British" theme with another regular group. The Norton Fitness Club joined us again this year. The most exercise they seem to take is walking to the bar!!!
Getting in the spirit there where Union Jacks galore and even a Britannia or two.
We had a great weekend with Dave Nicholson entertaining on the friday night and quizzes, games and a few risque riddles and stories to round the night off.
Also in April was one of the famous Whitby Goth weekends. Well worth a visit to see all the weird and wonderful costumes that the "Goth" parade around town in.
Wouldn't fancy meeting some of these in a dark alley!!!
New Year
Another fantastic New Year!!! We think everyone enjoyed it as much as we did!!!
Our "Best of British" theme really got the imagination going from Henry VIII and Ann Boleyn to Sherlock Holmes and Andy Pandy.
Our winners this year were the John and Jill as a Pearly King and Queen...you can't get much more British than that.
A new prize this year "Most entertaining costume", was heading Brian and Helen's way...even before we saw them!!! Brian, we never know what Helen will put you in next...and you keep agreeing to wear it!!!!
With plenty of food, drink, laughs and firework we certainly saw the old year out in style.
